I ran across this somehow...I clicked on a link that had the word HIPSTER in it...and landed HERE...The website is pretty comical...I've noticed that once you give, a way of life, hobby, culture, etc, a title....it no longer becomes cool...people don't like to be labeled...even if they live that life, they start to deny it...example...call someone a hipster that totally lives the lifestyle of one, and they'll deny it till the death...a hipster is not a bad thing...

I had no idea there was a video for this. Thank you DC for the heads up. I heard this song for the first time about 2 weeks ago, and I could not stop playing it. It's 2008...I left the blog hanging for the remainder of 07'...to those that found my blog interesting enough to keep coming back, I apologize for the lack of updates...you know how things go when you're on THE GO...but as far as 2007 goes...I can wrap it up like so...

--I attended my first Lupe Fiasco concert (which was absolutely amazing)
--I went to B-More for thee first time...it was quite the experience
--I am now a co-host for a college hip-hop radio station (so what if it's online)
--The return of 90's style of clothing has left an irritable imprint in my mind...mainly because those same people are trying to act like they're still living in the 90's...carrying around boom boxes that only play 90's jams, rocking high top fades, lacing up busted Reeboks, that they really dug out of their older brother's 90's era box...the same one's that claim music is dead, and will ONLY listen to old Nas and A Tribe Called Quest....NOOOO.....now that it's 2008, is is OVER??

I was going through V Magazine's website...for my daily update on style and all that comes with it. I found an interview that they did with Redken for their Urban Experiment line. Check out the interview HERE. I think that their approach to 21st century hair care is amazing and their efforts to go beyond conformity is clearly displayed through their newly developed interactive website. They made it known that their agenda is not to simply display new hair styles....
"The focus is not about hair...but about lifestyles"
The Urban Experiment products are quoted to,
"Represent a fashion-forward trend and are more about personal expression than conventional style"
....and I can dig that. I checked out the site for myself and was completely stunned by their unique approach. I pulled the site up on my computer, the intro happened to be a wonderful display of individuals with obviously different styles posed and ready to guide consumers around the site. The big bold words, "Dare to Experiment", seemingly tease you, and "spin the bottle" adds to that temptation. So, I spin the bottle and it lands on one of the posed individuals. I am then directed to a screen that offers up a description of the dare that I am given (along with, "the hair for this dare"). #9, which is titled, give a mix CD to a stranger (and an amusing illustration accompanies it). It goes on to give a description of this dare, basically create a mix of music give it to someone random and let it be. They are then supposed to be longing for you, this person that "they're having a tough time remembering". I think it's genius. BTW, in case you are wondering what the hairstyle is that's supposed to go with this dare, long layered locks with enamel gel (which is one of their products).

Now while this might sound like heaven for some, it is an everday struggle for Sarah who developed the illness after she was prescribed anti-depressants at the age of 19, (and this is why, I believe that anti-depressants are worthless, go toke on some green-you'll feel better w/o the side effects). It's called Permanent Sexual Arousal Syndrome (PSAS), which increases blood flow to the sex organs resulting in her outrageous number of orgasms a day. She is stimulated by almost any vibration, loud noises, trains, and she works in a salon filled with hairdryers and beauty & skincare gadgets that vibrate all day long. Read her interview with News of the World below:

She explained: "Anything can set me off. Even the hairdryers cause funny pulsations through my body.

"As a skin care specialist I have to use tools which vibrate a lot of the time for micro-dermabrasion and they sometimes set me off.

"I find if I'm nervous I'm less likely to get over-excited. So sometimes I try to psyche myself up and worry to control my orgasms.

"Some of my regular customers know my problem. But with new clients it's hard to explain.

She has also had embarrassing moments in public. Going to noisy bars and clubs is out of the question as the vibrations send her wild.

"We have to find nice quiet bars," she explained. "I have more orgasms if I have a drink as it relaxes me so I tend to drink very little now.

"It can be a bit embarrassing if I'm tipsy and guys who don't know me talk to me, because I find it harder to hide.

"The most embarrassing thing that has happened was when I answered a market research questionnaire and had an orgasm in front of the researcher.

"She knew what was happening and looked at me like I was a weirdo. I tried to explain that I couldn't help it, but I was blushing so much I had to walk away."

Sarah has even been to a Sex Addicts' Anonymous meeting in despair over her sex drive.

She said: "At first when the problem started I just wanted to have sex all the time, I thought I was a sex addict.

"But when I looked around the room and heard the stories other people told, about how desperate they were for sex, I realised I wasn't like them.

"With me, it was a means of releasing my orgasm, but now I know I don't have to have sex to do that."

Sarah has looked into the condition and believes it may have been triggered by her taking anti-depressants.

She said: "I've found studies that say that taking anti-depressants and then stopping has an effect on the sexual organs. That is the only thing that explains what happens to me.

"But I've heard of other girls who have the same problem and it just appears out of the blue. I've spoken to my doctor about it but she wasn't a great deal of help but that's mainly because there's very little known about it and no one yet knows how to cure it."

Thanks to her understanding friends and colleagues, Sarah feels like she can now live with PSAS.

She said: "I'm lucky because people around me are very kind and appreciate that sometimes this is a problem for me and it can be embarrassing.

"I need to concentrate on something sad or worrying when I talk to people and I don't want to get carried away."

During our 40-minute interview, Sarah told us she had five orgasms.

Years of dealing with the problem means that sometimes she can hide it quite well.

Her voice goes high pitched and she will lose her train of thought and have to stop talking completely for a few seconds. She says disguises this by coughing when she is in awkward situations.

"But it's also nice to have so much excitement every day! It's strange because it came from nowhere and I guess it could go away just as quickly, so I'm making the most of it while it lasts!"

I'll be down in the durty tonight. Well I'll be in the country anyway, on a farm riding on hay wagons and all that good stuff. Every Halloween season Ashland Berry Farms (Central Virginia area) offers what they like to call 'Haunted Evenings' which includes a haunted hayride feature, and two haunted houses. It's an awesome set up they have, it's attracted thousands over the years. Last year I think we stood in line for a good hour and a half before we got to run for our lives in the haunted woods that come equipped with their own Michael Myers, trap doors, and random men chasing you with chain saws. This year, they've added clowns and an ice cream truck, and we all know how horrific clowns are (flashbacks to that circus: Age 8). If you happen to be in the area, check it out. It's definitely not for the faint of heart.

Perfume is method of attraction made much easier in my book...stimulating someone's senses just might be the first step of attraction for you...A good fragrance has the power to make you feel more confident, sexier (w/o having to put on scandalous outfits) , and more desirable...just the other day I was told that I smell really good by numerous people in different locations...(thanks to Paris Hilton's fragrance, 'Heiress'...yea I made her even more wealthy but damnit her perfumes are one of the best)...I am also a huge fan of J.Lo's perfumes from 'Glow' to 'Miami Glow'...and she's back again with "Deseo" (which translates to "Desire" in English). "Deseo" will be released in February 2008 and is the first product among her beauty ventures to reference her latino heritage...I personally cannot wait to experience because she never fails to disappoint me in the perfume department.

During the Halloween season, you'll find your usual costume party, or that haunted house that the same farm sets up every year....why not do something different....something that will send real chills up your spine....engage in a Halloween activity that actually has history...Jet Set to creepy destinations...this post was inspired by a news feature I saw over at Yahoo...bring a friend or a lover...if you tend to get spooked out easily....than I would suggest that ol' Haunted House thing....

Torchlit nighttime boat tours are offered by the Old River Plantation Adventure through the Manchac Swamp a.k.a the "Haunted Swamp". This site is located near New Orleans which means you can stop through this swamp and then go hit up Bourbon St. for good food and fun afterward. Ancient cypress trees and Spanish moss are scattered throughout to make the swamp a bit more eerie for it's visitors. It is said that the swamp was cursed by an imprisoned voodoo queen around the turn of the last century, resulting in the disappearance of three hamlets in a hurricane in 1915. And people are probably really frightened by the swamp being that it has been left alone by commercial development for more than 100 years. You be the judge. Louisiana always seemed like a spooky place to live what with all the voodoo and black magic that is said to still be practiced here.

They cater to the eccentric, non-conformists of the world. You won't find Kate Moss in this mag. Instead, you'll find someone like, let's say, M.I.A. I'm sure you've all seen Old Navy's commercial advertising their line of sweaters...and I'm sure when you heard that wonderful tune that played the background, you asked yourself, "Who sings that? That sounds nice." For those that have no clue as to what I'm talking about, here is the commercial

The song is called, "The Way I Am" by Ingrid Michaelson. She's an independent artist that gained a large amount of recognition through another one of Old Navy's advertising campaigns. I think they chose a great song for this commercial, it's a composition of simple lyrics, a smooth melody, and a beat backed by bongos that make the flow of the song a bit more catchy.

So I was watching EXTRA on t.v today and saw an interview that Beyonce was giving to a reporter. She talked about the Oscars, House of Dereon and the video that she filmed with Shakira for, "Beautiful Liar" which was a track produced by Shakira. I'm not exactly sure if Bey recorded a version with Shakira but the track below offers up a Spanish speaking Bey getting red hot over a "Latinized" beat. It catchy, I like it. It's fun to try to sing along with too......check it check it check it out.

Yeah, so this is yet another "Britney Spears" post. But I promise this one is a little different then the rest of the news that we've been use to hearing over the past few days. Fist off, I was just as shocked as the rest of the world when I saw her head shaved down to peach fuzz. Everyone was coming to their own conclusions about her behavior, that is if they could even draw their own in the first place. Some just didn't get it at all to try to understand it.
I decided to read in a little deeper into this. Now remember that she converted to the Jewish faith with Madonna as her mentor. She did claim to have put it on the backburner because of the financial burden it was putting on her, but did she really. I recently saw a video of her, it was footage from a news report on ABC that showed her inside of a tattoo parlor bearing her freshly shorn head. She was also sporting the Star of David on her necklace.....but it was turned so that it was hanging down along her spine. For some reason I thought that shaving your head was some sort of cleansing process and decided to look further into it online. I think I succeeded in finding this article on Nazarite's.....people who have formed a seperation from God. Anyhoo, it does have to do with the Jewish faith.....please read, and try to understand why she MAY have shaved her head:

Commands to the Nazarite

One of the reproaches the Nazarite had to bear, was having long hair. Some might protest that Jesus had long hair so how could this be the case? In the same era when Jesus appeared on earth, the Apostle Paul wrote the following:
"Does not even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him? But if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her; for her hair is given to her for a covering." 1Corinthians 11:14-15 (NKJV)

Moreover, let us also read the command given in Ezekiel regarding the priests:
"They shall neither shave their heads nor let their hair grow long; but they shall keep their hair well trimmed." Ezekiel 44:20 (NKJV)

There is no Scripture that states that Jesus had long hair. Nevertheless, Jesus bore greater reproach than any Nazarite; however that is not the subject of this teaching.
We see then that the long hair was a reproach to a man, but certainly it was not to a woman. The Scripture even says that a woman's long hair is a glory to her. Nevertheless, after the vow was broken, we read that the head was to be shorn – and it was then that she would bear this particular reproach. A shaved head for a woman has been a sign of shame for thousands of years. Female collaborators with the Nazis in countries such as Holland were shorn and paraded in the streets when the war ended. The female Nazarite would bear this for many months after the vow was consummated. Moreover, the hair was a covering of beauty for the woman, so her vanity was also an issue. To some extent this might be ameliorated if she wore a head covering, but the shaving was to take place in public at the Tabernacle of Meeting (Numbers 6:18). "

It's not surprising that this is in fact why she shaved her head. She was ashamed of her overtly wild behavior over the past months. She ended up in rehab for 24 hours. Something might have come over her. I don't know, but I do know it's probably a good idea that she doesn't party with Paris anymore. I mean look at the picture of her with Paris and her son. Paris doesn't even look safe enough to be around him. And I'm extremely happy that the two aren't wearing matching t-shirts anymore. I say, Britney do you.

It's the day after Valentine's Day and after all of my daytime frenzy was over, I sat at home and started surfing the net.
I wanted to look up celebs that I haven't heard from in awhile. Entertainers that rocked us for awhile and then the next minute just
went into some kind of hibernation. The very first name that came into mind was Peedi Crakk, and that's how I knew he would be a good candidate for my first, "Like it Use to Be" post.....

I, like a lot of other people, enjoyed Peedi Peedi's music. His quick and spunky delivery could made a track rock so hard. Remember, "One for Peedi Crack and two for Free...." and "It's gettin', it's gettin', it's gettin' kinda heavy". I know I do, but what happened to Mr. P. Crakk.? That big split up of Team Rocafella really set him back. But anyway, my point is this, I looked up Peedi in Rocafella news and the last bit of news they have on him is from 06/10/2004. The wonderful day associated with love, romance, and courtship just passed again. For many, this day brings chocolates, flowers, balloons, jewelry, and fine dining and for others it's a day to remember unity, and togetherness among loved ones. Whatever Valentine's Day means to you, I hope you consider taking measures to find out exactly why we celebrate this holiday.
I high school, Valentine's Day was always just a way to show off how much cards, candies, and flowers you would get. It was a way to let your crush know you were into them, and for ladies ecspecially, it was a way to get romantic with your boo. Now that I am much more older and mature, I want less of the candies, and stuffed animals, and more understanding of this holiday.
This valentines, me and my better half decided to kick the sappy valentine traditions to the curb. No Russell Stovers chocolates, no singing teddies, and definitely no balloons. We decided to do grown up things so we made an agenda up to fulfill that. We included on that agenda, dinner because neither one of us felt like cooking, a trip to Barnes & Nobles to brush up on our intellect, a trip to their starbucks for vanilla bean frappucinos, record shopping at a local PLAN 9, and video games on our PC. I must say, it was much like a normal day but of course, we added a little spice. Throughout the day, we had to spontaneously tell eachother what we remember about our first encounters with eachother. With each reminder came a 5 minute reminiscing session which made us laugh and overall, remember why we fell in love with eachother in the first place. Sounds corny but hey we both enjoyed it. Before we challenged each other to a game of Sonic, we looked up the origin of Valentine's Day. Below is an article that we dug up from history.com. Of course you know what came after lights out but that's a whole other story in the making.

St. Valentine's Day, as we know it today, contains vestiges of both Christian and ancient Roman tradition. So, who was Saint Valentine and how did he become associated with this ancient rite? I realized that I missed a whole month of blogging but I had a few things I had to handle. Fortunately, with the mishaps that have been taking place, also came learning experiences and even more things to blog about. Let's see I've still been listening to new music, and rocking oh so fly so there won't be anything that I need catching up on. I've still got this. The site still being upgraded to the tee so bare with me pleeeeease.

But onto a serious note, take your life seriously. I mean, check up on reality once in awhile. I know it feels great to have fun and be with friends and chill and rebel, but people tend to forget to slow down sometimes. This means, learn from mistakes, take heed to warnings, be cautious, etc. Life is too wonderful to let slip through your fingers. Take the "Saw" movies for instance, yeah they were a bit horrific, but they had lessons within each one. That movie's message was not just, "ooh, he's getting his arm ripped off, cool", it was also, "hey, appreciate your life and everything you have in it, don't cheat, don't lie, don't do anything to take advantage of this great gift of life". Yeah, I do analyze a great deal. It's good to use this brain of ours while it's still in tip-top shape.

R.I.P Anna Nicole Smith

The news of her death really startled me. I'm not quite sure why, maybe it was just completely unexpected. I felt bad for her when her son passed away, and I was even more sympathetic when she didn't know who the father of her child was. People were just giving her grief, she probably wasn't strong enough to take it. Another life claimed by Hollywood and it's tolls....it it amazing how much she tried to resemble Marilyn Monroe. She may have even died in a similar fashion.

If you don't know her name by now, it's Lady Sovereign, the biggest midget in the game. Standing at 5'3 inches, Lady Sov proves that good things come in small packages. The female mc/producer hit the scene at 15 years old and now she's ready to stand tall for the long haul. Her strong personality and rebel attitude makes for a an all around good performer. If you don't have her album, I would highly recommend that you pick it up. Every song on the album is a sure fire hit, she really knows how to make a good song, and make it rock too. She toured with Obie Trice on his UK tour, worked with Missy Elliot, and is currently signed to Def Jam. You might have heard the problem some industry folks had about her lack of promotion before the relase date of her album (all fingers pointed at H.O.V). But anyway check out some tracks from this talented young miss, I betcha can't play just one.

While probing through my collection of DVD's last night, I came across "Scarface" and thought well I have a plethora of time available to take this movie in again. I haven't seen it in awhile and it does happen to be an old favorite of mine mainly because I loved Michelle Pfeiffer's character, Elvira Hancock, minus her serious coke habit. She was a tough pill to swallow unless you knew how to break that hard outer shell of hers which I can relate 100%. Watching her this time around made me think of Gwen Stefani on the cover of her new album. She appears, sleek, untouched, and just as flawless as Elvira did when she was taking that ride down the elevator so conveniently located in her home. And then there is that touch of mystery to keep you wondering what this chick is all about. Gwen's look also helps to set the mood of her album which I think could pass for music played during Studio 54's operating hours. Pure genius.

I was watching some Dateline like show the other night and was extremely surprised at what I saw. An American reporter went over to Korea. I'm guessing they wanted a detailed look into the lives of Koreans in their society. They went on to show children in their classrooms, 3-4 year old children who were just about robotic. They were playing instruments in moving with such grace and precision that I was forced to keep watching. I thought, damn what do they feed these kids? 3 year olds in the U.S clearly stand no chance next to Korean children when it comes to domestication. I see 3 year olds running around outside, barefoot, with tonka trucks filled with dirt in my neighborhood. The next scene was a reporter chatting with the natives of Korea on the street. They blatantly stated their hatred for the U.S. And they did it with a smile on their face, holding the American's hand. It was like she was saying something that we should already know like, "Yea, there is nothing good about the US, you know, we can't stand how you run your country (all smiles)". I mean the look on the reporter's face was that of shock disguised by understanding eyes and the "I know what you mean" nod. So today, I decide to look up why the U.S is hated so much.....I found this essay that went into detail about why we are hated. It was interesting. Lauryn Hill: Boulevard of Broken Dreams

It's been awhile since I've heard anything from or about my girl Lauryn Hill but a new docu-series will be premiering on E! and she is among the few to be featured in the eight-part series titled, "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" which will debut on January 22 @10:30.

Maybe we'll all be enlightened as to why and where she disappeared to. The half-hour series will uncover real-life stories of foul play, heartbreak and untimely death in Hollywood as well as the comeback stories of celebrities who overcame great adversity to get back in the game. Sounds like she may have been involved in some serious shit. The others to be featured aren't really model citizens themsleves.

Apparently where I'm from, I need them out and cocked too. With Christmas rolling around, I thought I would blog about the crime rise in Richmond at this time of year. I currently reside in Richmond (thank VCU for that) and I am constantly watching the news and/or reading about robberies in the Richmond area. I never really knew how bad Richmond was until I saw that last year it was in the top 5 of the most dangerous cities in the nation. That statistic made me more cautious and interested in what was going on in the news for my own safety.

This year I'm not exactly sure what number Richmond is on the list of the most dangerous cities in the nation but I do know that the crime here is ridiculous. As soon as I turn 21 I'm taking that 'right to bear arms' thing and running with it........straight to the gun shop to cop a little something for my protection. For now, I have rely on my pepper spray to get me from point A to point B. But pepper spray just seems like hair spray when someone is holding a gun to your head demanding money that they should really know college students don't have.

There have been about 15 robberies this month alone. But that only counts for those robberies that were actually reported. Then there are still those robberies that end up in murders and believe me there are plenty of those too. What really sent a chill up my spine were the robberies that took place and probably will continue to take place on my block. That's exactly why I have a dog, and I'm not talking about a little yorkie that can probably get kicked up the block, I'm talking about that good old boxer/lab mix. Desperate times call for desperate measures. I mean, I know this type of shit happens everywhere in the U.S, and Richmond probably doesn't have it the worst, but I'm still shook. I have school to worry about let alone the idea of getting robbed or possibly even killed.

To conclude, I'd just like all of my people that live in Richmond to be cautious during this time. Please take into consideration these statistics because this shit really is happening left and right on just about every street near and on the VCU campus. Be safe during the holidays. And there might be power in numbers but some of these robbery reports included groups of people getting robbed so you have to think, "is there really power in numbers?" At the end of the day, we're all citizens so I suggest you use your right to bear arms.

Cocaine Rap

For me, this cocaine rap thing was tolerable with Juelz and his "Back Like Cooked Crack" mixtapes. I even sang along to "...stay on the grind like clockwork". But then Jeezy made his appearance on the scene with his trademark 'snowman' alias. At this point it started sounding like a jackhammer going off non-stop. After, Rick Ross' "Hustlin", I was done. I was pretty much burned out on raps dedicated to the hustlin of that hard white. Now I just refuse to get it anymore. I mean, these are wonderful street anthems (i guess-they get a lot of radio play). And it's easy to see why these artists get plenty of love not to mention street cred. It's almost like a dedication to the hustler's way of life, why wouldn't the streets love it. I'm in no way downing it and wishing it away forever, but it would be nice to get a break from it once in awhile. For one, it does not serve as ideal music for this generation's youth, who in my opinion are already heading down the wrong road. And two, there are only so many ways in which you can try to diversify the "ways in which you're pushing that". It pretty much depends on the beat at this point to make the song a hit. I don't know when it will ever end. I thought that at a certain point, an artist's music reflects their way of life like Jay said. He use to rap about hustlin' and running the streets but now he sips the finest in a yacht on some private island, so that's what he raps about 90% of the time. I mean that makes a lot of sense to me. Maybe certain artists haven't reached that height in their career to make music about anything else.

"Cocaine and hip-hop share a long history, but over the last few years, there's been a surge in coke-themed songs and artists -- aka crack rap. The roots of this fad date back to 2002, with the critical and commercial success of both Scarface's "The Fix" and especially the Clipse's "Lord Willin".

While Scarface spoke mostly on the necessary evils of drug dealing, the Clipse's Pusha T and Malice gleefully glorified hustling as the way into wealth rather than path out of poverty. Their songs were cartoonishly outrageous, even by Tony Montana-standards, as they co-opted children's rhymes into coke boasts and dropped punch lines about yayo-smuggling grandmothers.

Four years later and the genre shows little sign of decline. Bay Area rapper E-40 started off 2006 with his ode to blow, "White Gurl." Then a parade of mixtapes like Juelz Santana and Lil Wayne's "I Can't Feel My Face" kept things frosty until the last few weeks where Jay-Z's "Kingdom Come," the Clipse's "Hell Hath No Fury" and Young Jeezy's "The Inspiration: Thug Motivation 102" promise that talk of snow this winter won't necessarily be about the weather.
One of the more fascinating outcomes of crack rap's bubbling rise is in its impact on how artists position themselves through a new paradigm of authenticity. Rappers used to rap about rapping. Parochial as it sounds, for at least 15 years, this was good enough to turn lyricists such as Rakim and KRS-One into legends. However, in a slow and steady shift that began with pioneering gangsta rappers like Schoolly D and Eazy-E and then found its apotheosis in Biggie and Jay-Z, being a good rapper was no longer enough to be a good rapper.

To wit: On Jay-Z's 1997 "In My Lifetime, Vol. 1," he opens with this intro: "I ain't no rapper, I'm a hustler. Just so happens I know how to rap." Subtle as it may seem, Jay exemplified a new narrative arc for the king emcee -- from ruler of the crack game to the rap game. Even on "Kingdom Come," his ninth album and first since "retiring" three years ago, Jay is repeating the same message: "I'm just a hustler/disguised as a rapper/in fact you can't fit this hustle/inside of a wrapper." At the core of Jay's boasting is how's he's gone from cooking up crack hits to cranking out rap hits, but even if the background's changed, the hustle remains the same.

Today's cocaine rappers manage to take that even a step further: They never left the kitchen to begin with. It's a point made visually on the cover of the Clipse's "Hell Hath No Fury," where Pusha and Malice stand next to a gas-range oven. As they insist on "Keys Open Doors" (they're not talking about Schlage), they've earned enough off coke that they "ain't spent one rap dollar in three years, holla." It's a remarkable and utterly illogical pose: Rappers are rapping about not being rappers, yet there's an odd appeal in listening to artists promote their craft by negating it. Only in hip-hop.

It has not escaped notice that for all the pleasure in celebrating the hustler's credo, the subgenre is, well, amoral, not to mention divorced from reality. Few street dealers ever made fortunes off cocaine -- the profits blew up the chain to the cartels -- and in any case, cocaine and crack use (and related violence) have fallen precipitously since the mid-1990s.

It's tempting to read crack rap as a form of imagined nostalgia. Most of these rappers would've been too young to remember the height of the crack epidemic in the '80s, yet this may be what makes it easier to romanticize the trade and gloss over its deleterious impact. However, what's being promoted isn't nihilism, despite appearances otherwise: It's crack as a metaphor for power. Drugs are deeply symbolic in our culture -- not just in hip-hop but American pop life -- of escape, pleasure, obsession and despair. For a young cadre of rappers trying to one-up their peers, coke has resonated as their signifier for mastery and control.

If hip-hop respects nothing else, it's the idea that simple things can move minds and bodies, whether that power is found in a gun trigger, a raised fist, a mic grip or, as it now seems, trapped in a glass vial. Topically, the trend has to exhaust itself eventually -- in theory at least. When it does, what will future generations think of this crack-rap era? Will they see it as a colorful fad, like polka dots and pastels from the late '80s? Or will they curiously wonder how it is that as fans and artists alike, we stared at the dystopia of cocaine culture and reacted, not with concern or horror, but with rapt fascination and celebration?"

So I'm sure you've heard one of the many songs that have leaked from Miss Mya. I personally cared for NONE of them at all. I was honestly disappointed with every one of them. Like what happened to you Mya. Hit us with another "My Love is Like Wo" at least. Well anyway, this song right here is her OFFICIAL first single. It features none other than Weezy Wee (complete with his ego and all). I don't know what to think about it yet. I'm still indifferent because it just doesn't have that pizzaz that I always look for in a single, well a good one anyway. I would have to say that the chorus and hook it alright, of course, so are Weezy's verses. It just seems that she NEEDED to pull someone for this single to even get it's foot in the door. But check it out for yourselves.
